Plain English, and short. If a term here ever seems to work against you, write to us — we'd rather fix it than hide behind it.

Pearl introduces a member to a real companion — a warm, background-checked person who calls her regularly, simply to talk. Her family receives a short note each week. After a year of conversations, we make a hardcover book of her stories, in her own words, with a code inside so her family can hear her voice.
Pearl is the service that makes the introduction. The calls come from her companion — a person, never a machine, never a recording, never an artificial voice.
Pearl is companionship and storytelling. It is not therapy, and it is not medical care. Companions are kind and attentive, but they are not clinicians and they will not act as ones.
Pearl is not an emergency service. Nobody is watching over her between calls. If you are worried about her safety or her health, contact her doctor or call 911 — do not wait for her next call.
If a companion ever hears something that worries her, she passes it to the family contact you gave us, promptly. That is a courtesy between people who care — not a monitoring service, and not a substitute for one.
The $49 deposit is fully refundable, at any point, for any reason. Before the first call, after the first call, a month in — you ask, we return it. We won't ask you to justify it and we won't try to talk you out of it.
Monthly payments can be stopped at any time, with one email. There is no contract, no notice period, and no cancellation fee. You are never charged for a month that hasn't started.
Calls are recorded so that her stories can become her book. Her companion asks her permission on the very first call, in plain words, before anything else — and the asking is part of the recording, so there is always a record that she said yes.
If she says no, we don't record, and she still gets her calls. If she changes her mind later, she only has to say so. She never has to explain why.
What we do with recordings, how long we keep them, and how to have them deleted is set out on the privacy page.
We make the book from a year of her conversations. It is her story, in her words — we don't invent, embellish, or put words in her mouth. If a year passes and there hasn't been enough conversation to make a book worth keeping, we'll tell you honestly rather than print something thin.
If a companion isn't the right match, tell us and we'll find another, at no cost. If we can't find the right person for her, we'll say so and return your money rather than keep taking it.
We may end a membership if a companion is treated abusively. In that case we refund the unused part of the month.
We'll email you before they do. If a change doesn't suit you, cancel — and the old terms hold until you do.
A real person reads every message.
